Plastic gloves under the riding gloves
Our first lifehack for winter is to use plastic gloves under the riding gloves. Your hands need to be warm and completely dry before you put on the plastic gloves. Perfect both for stable work and riding, as you can keep your hands warm without needing thick and bulky gloves. You can of course reuse the plastic gloves.
Colander or net for removing ice
In winter, water for the pasture freezes easily if you don't have a heated water trough. When this is to be removed, it becomes very cold for the hands to stick them in the water. A rake, or a colander works well to remove the ice without getting wet and cold yourself.
Stock in stock
When it's cold, it's often best to combine multiple layers, rather than just wearing one super-thick garment. You often become more flexible, and if an outer layer gets damp, you can easily replace it, rather than it ending up on the body.
Extra clothes
Keep warm clothes in the stable. Extra socks, jacket and trousers are always good to have in the stable. It doesn't take much to get chilled at really low temperatures, dry and warm clothes you can change into are then a good start.
